Cross-border special treatment & medicine insurance was officially launched in Haikou, Hainan on Dec. 17. The insurance is a combination of cross-border medical treatment for patients, cross-border doctor practice, and direct payment of insurance claims, taking advantage of the resource of senior doctors from overseas, medical network resources, and the special medicine resources of the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone.
In terms of “special treatment”, the insurance will help reduce financial burdens while covering the treatment costs for specific diseases in the four super hospitals in the Pilot Zone. Senior doctors from Hong Kong will be able to register and practice in Hainan, and eligible patients with severe diseases can receive both online and in-person consultations with domestic and international doctors. Additionally, the insurance will enable eligible patients to go to Hong Kong for medical treatment and enjoy the direct payment of claims and other services as well as optimal diagnosis and treatment solutions.
In terms of “special medicine”, the insurance covers a total of 1 million CNY (about 153,000 USD) in medicine costs for 51 types of special medicines yet to be approved domestically and 21 types of special medicines which have already been approved domestically. Additionally, the insurance is designed with sincerity to benefit all people. All those eligible can enjoy an insurance amount of up to 7 million CNY (about 1.1 million USD) with a monthly premium of a minimum of about 15 CNY (about 2.3 USD).
The insurance will significantly improve the level of health insurance development and medical services, developing the Hainan Free Trade Port into a global high-end medical service and health management center.
